Trump's approval rating falls to 33% in latest Reuters/Ipsos poll

Résumé

A Reuters/Ipsos survey shows President Donald Trump's approval rating at 33%, his lowest level in both terms, amid concerns over the Iran conflict, gasoline prices and inflation.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll of 1,166 U.S. adults found that 33% approve of President Donald Trump’s performance, matching his lowest rating from his first term in office. Disapproval stood at 64%, up from 35% approval recorded the previous week. The poll was conducted as the United States confronts an ongoing conflict with Iran that began in February, rising gasoline prices and higher inflation.

Eight out of ten respondents said they expect the Iran war to continue for an extended period. Gasoline prices have risen from just under $3 per gallon to just over $4 per gallon, according to American Automobile Association data, while year-over-year inflation increased from 2.4% in February to 3.4%.

"Remember that when you have to pay a little bit more, $4, it’s OK," Trump said at a rally in New York, adding that he had "done the right thing" and would not apologize.

White House spokesperson Olivia Wales responded to questions about the poll by noting the president’s tax cuts, prescription-drug cost reductions, border security measures and other policy achievements, and said the United States has never been stronger. The White House did not comment on a timeline for ending the Iran conflict.
