McIlroy Questions Value LIV Golfers Could Add to PGA Tour

Rory McIlroy told reporters at the BMW Championship that he is uncertain whether former LIV Golf players would add value to the PGA Tour, asking, "I mean, I'd argue have they brought value to LIV?" His comments came as LIV Golf cancelled its planned 2026 season-finale event in Michigan, shifting the finale to Indianapolis. The cancellation has intensified speculation about the league’s viability after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund withdrew its financial support earlier this year.

Golf Digest reported that LIV may be preparing to file for bankruptcy, with contractors alleging unpaid services and a lawsuit from the Premier Golf League accusing LIV of breach of confidence and unlawful conspiracy. If the organization were to dissolve, analysts expect its leading players to seek a return to the PGA Tour.

Brooks Koepka rejoined the PGA Tour this season under conditions that barred him from the tour’s $20 million signature events unless he qualified, required a $5 million charitable contribution, and excluded any equity participation. Similar terms were reportedly offered to Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith following Koepka’s return.
