Jaguars showcase strong running game and red-zone efficiency in joint practice with Panthers
Jacksonville's joint practice with Carolina highlighted an effective rushing attack and precise red-zone passing for the Jaguars, while both teams exchanged offensive and defensive successes.
Jacksonville, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars concluded a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday with notable improvements in their running game and red-zone execution. Despite lingering injuries, the Jaguars displayed a physical and energetic session, according to head coach Liam Coen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence and Coen praised the rushing performance, noting several runs that could have resulted in touchdowns in a game setting. Running back Bhayshul Tuten demonstrated agility and power at the second level, while Chris Rodriguez Jr. consistently gained yards up the middle. Backup backs Ameer Abdullah and J'Mari Taylor also contributed, with Abdullah breaking off a long run and Taylor scoring a touchdown after key blocks.
In the red zone, Lawrence completed three consecutive touchdown passes, connecting with tight ends Brenton Strange and Nate Boerkircher, and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. The Jaguars' offense appeared most effective inside the opponent's 20-yard line, exploiting mismatches against the Panthers' defense.
Defensively, Jacksonville forced a three-and-out on the final drive, with defensive ends Josh Hines-Allen and Dennis Gardeck recording back-to-back sack attempts. Coach Coen expressed disappointment over the lack of turnovers, noting the team had not generated any takeaways in two joint practices.
The practice featured contributions from several players on both sides, including a pass breakup by Travis Hunter on defense and solid receiving by Brian Thomas Jr., who was the most-targeted Jaguar receiver that day. The starting offensive line consisted of Anton Harrison, Emmanuel Pregnon, Robert Hainsey, Ezra Cleveland and Walker Little.
