Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte to undergo knee MRI after missing game
Ketel Marte was placed on the restricted list after failing to appear for a game in Boston; he will have an MRI in Phoenix and hopes to return soon.
Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was placed on the restricted list after he did not report to Fenway Park for Monday's game against the Red Sox. Team officials said he has not communicated the reason for his absence, and manager Torey Lovullo has been unable to reach him.
"I texted him and asked him what happened, and he didn't respond yesterday," infielder Luis Perdomo said. "Today I texted him about how his knee feels, and he said it was uncomfortable and that he would get an MRI." Marte's agent, Charisse Espinosa-Dash, told MLB Network that the player is dealing with a personal matter and will undergo an MRI on his knee the following day. She added that Marte appreciates the support of fans, teammates and the organization and remains optimistic about a quick return. Lovullo said his focus has shifted to the 26 players currently in the clubhouse and emphasized the need to stay present and win the upcoming game. He also noted that the team added infielder Jose Fernandez from Triple-A Reno to replace Marte on the roster. "It's not my department, I don't know the reason for that," Lovullo said, suggesting Marte may have requested to see doctors in Phoenix.
