Google launches Pixel 11 lineup with modest upgrades and new AI features

Summary

Google's Pixel 11 series adds refined designs, brighter OLED displays and AI-enhanced software, but offers limited hardware changes and higher prices.

Google introduced the Pixel 11 series, its most polished lineup to date, featuring three flat models and a foldable variant. All devices retain the familiar aluminum-glass construction and run Android 17 with Google’s Tensor G6 processor. Prices start at $899 for the base Pixel 11 and reach $1,899 for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, with storage options up to 1 TB.

The flat phones keep the same dimensions as the previous generation, while the Pro models add larger, brighter LTPO OLED screens that can reach up to 3,600 nits. The foldable’s internal display also peaks at that brightness, though its plastic top layer makes it more reflective than competitors. Battery capacities are slightly reduced across the range, but Google claims comparable endurance of 24–30 hours.

Camera hardware sees incremental updates, with the Pro models using a 50 MP primary sensor and the base model a new 48 MP sensor. Software introduces “Magic Capture,” which lets on-device AI trigger still photos during video recording, and an expanded “Camera Looks” suite offering stylized presets. A new HiLight LED ring on the Pro phones indicates AI activity but functions only when the device lies face-down.

Google emphasizes software continuity, promising seven years of OS updates, monthly security patches and quarterly feature drops. AI integration via Gemini appears in more than 40 apps, providing automated assistance for tasks such as shopping and reservations, though performance can be slower than manual interaction.

Performance benchmarks place the Tensor G6 behind flagship chips from Qualcomm and Apple, particularly in gaming where the retained PowerVR GPU lags. Daily use feels smooth, with fluid animations and stable thermal behavior. RAM starts at 12 GB, with 16 GB available on higher-priced configurations.

Overall, the Pixel 11 series offers solid build quality, excellent displays and strong camera results, but the modest hardware evolution, higher pricing and limited battery improvements may not compel owners of recent Pixels to upgrade.
