French Streamer Raphaël Graven's Death Under Investigation Amid Allegations of Abuse
French authorities are investigating the death of streamer Raphaël Graven, known as Jeanpormanove, amid allegations of abuse during live broadcasts.
French authorities have initiated an investigation into the death of Raphaël Graven, a 46-year-old streamer known online as Jeanpormanove. Graven was found deceased at his residence in Contes, a village north of Nice, during a live broadcast. Reports indicate that he had been subjected to prolonged periods of violence and sleep deprivation during his streams.
Clara Chappaz, the French Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technologies, described Graven's death and the treatment he endured as an "absolute horror," noting that he had been "humiliated" for months. Chappaz has referred the matter to Arcom, the French media regulator, and Pharos, a system used to report online content.
A spokesperson for Kick, the live-streaming platform where Graven broadcasted, stated that the company is "urgently reviewing" the circumstances surrounding his death. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jeanpormanove and extend our condolences to his family, friends, and community," the spokesperson said. They emphasized that the platform's community guidelines are "designed to protect creators" and affirmed Kick's commitment to upholding these standards.
In the days leading up to his death, Graven reportedly endured "ten days and nights of torture," involving severe physical abuse, forced sleep deprivation, and the ingestion of harmful substances. Fellow streamers Naruto and Safine have come under scrutiny, with allegations that they subjected Graven to on-stream humiliation. A video has surfaced showing Graven alongside them, where he delivers what is now being referred to as a "disclaimer," fueling speculation about the circumstances surrounding his final days.
Just days before his death, Graven reportedly sent a troubling message to his mother, expressing exhaustion and a desire to leave the situation but feeling unable to do so. Both Naruto and Safine have released statements expressing grief over Graven's passing, but their messages have been met with backlash as clips allegedly showing them physically harassing Graven circulate online.
Graven, born in 1979, gained prominence in the online entertainment scene with his mix of gaming and comedic content. Over time, he became associated with controversial "humiliation" livestreams alongside fellow streamers, which drew both large audiences and criticism. His death has sparked a wave of outrage and calls for accountability within the streaming community.
