Summary

The president and first lady will ride in the presidential motorcade for an honorary lap around the inaugural IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix circuit on the National Mall Sunday, ahead of the race's start.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are scheduled to ride in the presidential motorcade for an honorary lap around the IndyCar Freedom 250 Grand Prix circuit in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. The 1.66-mile street course begins at the base of Capitol Hill, proceeds past the White House on the traditional inaugural parade route, makes a sharp turn around the National Archives, crosses the National Mall, and circles the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the Museum of the American Indian before finishing.

The race, the first professional motorsports event to be held inside the nation’s capital, is set to start shortly after 1 p.m. Eastern Time, with military flyovers planned to begin at 11:30 a.m. The event follows a previous White House-hosted UFC card on the South Lawn on June 14.

"The president’s official armored vehicle, known as the Beast, has previously made ceremonial laps at the Daytona 500 in 2020 and at NASCAR’s Great American Race last year," an administration source said.

The motorcade’s participation mirrors earlier ceremonial appearances by the president’s vehicle at major sporting events.
