Alleged GTA 6 gameplay videos surface ahead of Netflix preview

Summary

Unverified videos claiming to show Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay were shared online by a protest group, weeks before the game's extended look is scheduled to debut on Netflix.

Unverified footage that appears to depict gameplay from the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has been circulated on social media by a group protesting the lack of a physical disc version. The clips, which Video Games Chronicle could not obtain, show one of the game's two protagonists, Jason, playing a basketball mini-game and engaging in a driving-and-combat sequence that suggests the game may include RPG-style mechanics and fuel-based vehicle operation.

The group, calling itself Cyberleek, said it targeted Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, over the decision to sell only digital pre-orders for GTA VI and to forgo a disc release. Cyberleek also released a map it claims represents the game’s world.

The alleged videos emerged a week before the official “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” presentation, which is set to premiere on Netflix on August 27, with a subsequent release on Rockstar’s YouTube channel and the game’s website. Netflix has not provided further details about the length or content of the presentation.

"Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right," Netflix VP of nonfiction series Brandon Riegg said in a statement. "The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first."

Rockstar has not commented on the authenticity of the videos, and some of the clips may have been removed following copyright claims.
