Philadelphia police seek suspect in Chucky-mask harassment incident
Police are searching for a young Black male who allegedly harassed multiple people in Center City while wearing a Halloween-style Chucky doll mask, prompting a citywide appeal for witnesses.
Philadelphia police are looking for a suspect who allegedly stalked and threatened pedestrians in the city’s Center City district early Wednesday morning. The individual, described as a Black male, thin-built, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and between 16 and 20 years old, wore a distinctive Chucky doll-style face mask and was seen holding a cellphone, possibly recording the encounters.
"During that time span, he was able to accost a good many people, most of which haven't come forward yet," Capt. Jason Smith said at a press briefing.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect chasing a female jogger, asking her, "Are you ready to die?" The woman fled, sustaining a leg injury and calling for help. Police say at least six people were approached by the masked individual, who appeared to target anyone he encountered.
"He's targeting men and women, just whoever he appears to come across," Smith added.
Authorities have asked anyone who may have been approached to contact police. If arrested, the suspect could face charges including terroristic threats, harassment, simple assault, reckless endangerry and intimidation. Investigators are also reviewing social-media platforms for any video the suspect may have posted.
The suspect was observed briefly pulling the white mask down, revealing part of his face, which helped police develop the physical description used in the appeal.
