Chris Hansen told a podcast he was not involved in the making of the A24 drama "Primetime" about his former show, and he suspects the studio used his name for commercial purposes.

Chris Hansen told the "Serialously With Annie Elise" podcast that he had no role in creating the upcoming A24 drama "Primetime," which dramatizes his time hosting the "To Catch a Predator" television series. He said he only learned of the project after production was completed and has not yet seen the finished film. Hansen noted that A24 plans to provide him with a private screening so he can assess how closely the movie follows reality.

"My suspicion is that they used my name because it helps in a commercial enterprise," Hansen said, adding that he will evaluate the film once he has viewed it.

He described the trailer as looking "very dramatic" but emphasized that he cannot comment on the movie’s accuracy until he watches it. Hansen also questioned the motivations of Robert Pattinson, director Lance Oppenheim, and A24 in telling his story, suggesting the studio may be seeking commercial success.

"I’ve been busy being the real Chris Hansen, so I don’t have a lot of time to focus on the fake Chris Hansen," he told the host, and said he would share his impressions after the screening.

The film is scheduled for release on September 25.
