Hawaiian Electric reports over 117,000 customers still without power after Tropical Storm Lala

摘要

As Tropical Storm Lala moved away, Hawaiian Electric said more than 117,000 customers on Hawaii Island, Maui and Oahu remained without electricity, with crews continuing restoration work.

Hawaiian Electric (HECO) said that 117,120 customers across the state were still without power on Monday morning as Tropical Storm Lala passed the islands. The utility reported that outages were most severe on Hawaii Island, where 41,190 customers were affected, particularly in the Puna region and the Kona, Kohala, Hamakua and South Hilo districts. Maui County had 6,780 customers without service, with crews focusing on transmission repairs in Upcountry and assessing damage in Kula, Alaluana, Olinda, Pi’iholo and Haiku, while work continued in West, Central, South, East Maui and the neighboring islands of Moloka’i and Lana’i. On Oahu, about 69,150 customers remained without electricity, with restoration efforts underway in the Windward, Leeward and Honolulu areas.

"Hawaiian Electric acknowledges the challenges of being without power for more than a day and assures that crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to repair damages to restore all customers," the utility said. The company said it was updating outage maps and social-media feeds as information became available and urged residents to check its website or mobile app for the latest restoration estimates. It also provided contact numbers for reporting downed lines or other electrical hazards.
