Dallas Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones confirmed the signing of former Denver Broncos star Von Miller on a one-year contract worth up to $7.5 million, adding depth to the team's pass-rush rotation.

Dallas Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones told veteran edge rusher Von Miller that the team wanted to reverse the situation that saw former teammate DeMarcus Ware leave for Denver and win a Super Bowl. Jones said the goal was to bring Miller home to Dallas and compete for a championship.

Miller, a native of DeSoto, Texas, has spent the past several years seeking a contract with his hometown club. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl MVP, three-time All-Pro and is tied for ninth all-time in sacks with 138.5.

The Cowboys, who have been active in upgrading their defensive line, added Miller on a one-year deal with a base salary of $5.5 million and incentives that could raise the total to $7.5 million. The signing follows the acquisition of defensive end Rashan Gary from Green Bay and comes after the team was unable to trade for Maxx Crosby.

"You can’t have enough rushers in this league," Jones said, noting that the addition complements younger players such as Donovan Ezeiruaku, Rashan Gary and Malachi Lawrence, as well as veterans James Houston and Sam Williams.

Miller is expected to report to training camp on Monday night, with the aim of being ready for the season opener against the New York Giants.

The move marks the latest instance of a high-profile player publicly expressing interest in joining Dallas, but Jones emphasized that the timing and financial terms had to align before the deal could be completed.
