Diamondbacks place Ketel Marte on restricted list after missing Boston game
Arizona moved second baseman Ketel Marte to the restricted list for failing to appear at Fenway, recalling infielder Jose Fernandez to fill the roster spot.
Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Monday that second baseman Ketel Marte has been placed on the Major League Baseball restricted list after he did not show up for the team's game at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. The club also recalled infielder Jose Fernandez from Triple-A to replace Marte in the lineup.
According to the Arizona Republic, Marte is physically healthy, but his absence was unexcused and therefore qualifies for the restricted list, which means he will not receive pay or accrue service time until reinstated.
Marte, 32, is in the middle of a six-year, $105 million contract that runs through the 2030 season with an $11.5 million player option for 2031. He has a career 34.9 WAR with Arizona, ranking third in franchise history.
Fernandez was already in Boston as a contingency for third baseman Nolan Arenado, allowing manager Torey Lovullo to slot him into the roster without delay.
