Kentucky Governor Says He Has Received No Update on Mitch McConnell's Health
Governor Andy Beshear said he has not been contacted about Sen. Mitch McConnell's condition after the former Senate leader was hospitalized following a fall, while McConnell's office has issued statements confirming his recovery.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear told CBS News on Sunday that he has not received any communication regarding Sen. Mitch McConnell’s health since the former Republican leader was hospitalized after a fall on June 8. McConnell, 84, last voted in the Senate on June 11 before being admitted to a Washington, D.C., hospital and was released on August 6 to continue recovery at his home.
Beshear said, > "I’ve heard absolutely nothing back from Mitch McConnell," and added that he hopes the senator is improving. He suggested that a brief public update would satisfy Kentuckians, noting that the Senate is on a five-week recess and will not reconvene until September 14.
McConnell’s office has posted several photos showing him well and released statements saying doctors found no broken bones, concussion, heart attack, stroke, tumors or hemorrhages. In a recent statement, the senator said he will follow a physical-therapy regimen from home and remain engaged with staff on Senate business.
The senator’s office did not respond to a request for comment. McConnell, first elected in 1984, served as Republican conference leader from 2007 to 2025, the longest-serving party leader in Senate history.
