Dodgers manager Roberts criticizes offensive lapses after loss to Brewers
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team’s recent offensive struggles contributed to a 6-2 defeat that widened the gap with the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL race.
Los Angeles fell 6-2 to Milwaukee on Sunday, dropping three of four games in the series and falling three games behind the Brewers for the National League lead. The loss also cost the Dodgers a potential tiebreaker as the regular season draws to a close.
Manager Dave Roberts said the club has been producing below-average offense for the past several weeks and that the team has not been playing "clean baseball" in recent outings. He singled out a lack of urgency on each pitch, noting that some players are "scuffling" with their swings and not valuing every pitch.
Roberts highlighted that pitcher Tarik Skubal, acquired at the trade deadline, was charged with the loss and has yet to record a win for Los Angeles. He also pointed to slugger Shohei Ohtani’s limited production, noting Ohtani had three hits in four games and grounded into a game-ending double play in the eighth inning.
Despite maintaining a seven-game lead in the NL West, the Dodgers have gone 18-21 since early July. Roberts said the team must improve its approach, emphasizing the importance of not chasing pitches and executing a consistent plan from the first through the ninth inning. He added that while the defeat was disappointing, the club must move forward and avoid letting the loss affect its postseason aspirations.
