Saber Interactive adds AI disclaimer to Rideshare Stimulator Steam page

Summary

Saber Interactive updated the Steam listing for Rideshare Stimulator to disclose AI usage after earlier controversy involving its CEO and a former writer.

Saber Interactive has updated the Steam store page for its upcoming game Rideshare Stimulator to include an AI usage disclaimer that was absent when the title first appeared for wishlisting on July 30. The addition follows a public dispute between CEO Matthew Karch and former writer Stella Sacco after Karch suggested he would have been "happy to replace" her with AI.

Karch told IGN that the disclaimer would be added once the game was finalized and that the experimental mode featuring AI concepts was not part of the core experience. He later clarified that the main campaign’s story, characters and dialogue were created entirely by human writers, with AI tools employed only for voice generation and some localisation.

The disclosure notes that an optional "Free Ride" mode uses AI-generated passenger missions and localized dialogue, and that players can skip this mode if they prefer exclusively human-written content. It also states that the in-game radio stations combine human-made and AI-generated music, with AI stations clearly labelled.

Karch defended the studio’s broader use of AI, saying his public-relations team is "terrified" of the topic but that he is open to discussing how AI can shape gaming experiences. He dismissed the surrounding controversy as a "publicity stunt" and acknowledged that the writing staff has expanded since Sacco’s departure three years ago.

Karch has since apologized to Sacco, who accepted the apology and indicated she hopes no further statements will be needed.
