Rams coach says Aaron Donald's return remains undecided
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said the team has not reached a decision on defensive star Aaron Donald's comeback, noting the player is still evaluating his own readiness.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters after the team’s first preseason game that a decision on defensive tackle Aaron Donald’s return has not been made. McVay said the organization is “not at that point quite yet” and wants to give Donald time to assess his physical condition and personal benchmarks before committing to a comeback.
Donald, a ten-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, has been out of football since the 2023 season. McVay indicated that Donald is evaluating whether he can handle the demands of back-to-back days and other performance standards he set for himself.
The coach added that while the Rams hope for an earlier return, they do not want to set a deadline or pressure the 35-year-old player. "If he puts himself in a position where he says yes or no, I think he earned the right to have clarity on that," McVay said.
The team will continue to monitor Donald’s health and readiness as training camp approaches.
