Police arrested 19-year-old Camron Harris, who was found hiding in a Virginia State University dorm closet, and charged him with eight felonies after a shooting outside campus dormitories injured five people.

Police in Chesterfield County arrested Camron Harris, 19, on Saturday afternoon after locating him hiding in a closet at Seward Hall on Virginia State University’s campus. Lt. James Lamb said Harris was taken into custody at about 4 p.m. and transferred to the county jail, where he faces eight felony counts – four for malicious wounding and four for using a firearm in the commission of a felony – and is being held without bond. Additional charges could be filed.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of Boisseau Street, outside VSU dormitories, injuring five individuals. A 21-year-old man, not a student, remains in critical condition, while a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old VSU student sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The student has since been released from the hospital.

VSU police, the ATF, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and other federal and state agencies are involved in the ongoing investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Chesterfield County Police or submit a tip through the P3 app.
