Makhachev extends UFC win streak to 17 with unanimous decision over Machado Garry

Resumen

Islam Makhachev defended his welterweight title at UFC 330, beating Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision and surpassing Anderson Silva's record of 16 consecutive wins.

Islam Makhachev retained his UFC welterweight championship on Saturday in Philadelphia, defeating Ireland's Ian Machado Garry by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47). The victory marked Makhachev's 17th consecutive win, breaking Anderson Silva's long-standing record of 16 straight victories.

Makhachev controlled the 25-minute bout with dominant top control and chain wrestling, adding a notable second-round head kick. Machado Garry, who was seeking to become Ireland's second undisputed UFC champion, remained active in defensive scrambles but was unable to generate sufficient offense to influence the judges.

"I have nothing but respect for Islam. … He won. I have no complaints, no excuses," Machado Garry said after the fight.

"It’s always hard," Makhachev added, referring to the effort required to secure the win in the championship rounds.

In the co-main event, women's strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern defended her title against Gillian Robertson, also winning by unanimous decision (49-46, 49-46, 48-47) after a five-round display of grappling and submission attempts.

The UFC’s next event will take place in Sacramento, California, featuring a middleweight non-title fight between Anthony Hernandez and Gregory Rodrigues.
