Five dead and suspect found in shootings across Missaukee County, Michigan
Five people were killed in separate incidents in Missaukee County, Michigan, and a 39-year-old suspect was later found dead; a 13-year-old girl survived after being hospitalized in critical condition.
State police said five victims were discovered dead in two residences in Missaukee County, northern Michigan, after troopers responded to a late-morning shooting report on Friday. The first scene, in Lake Township, yielded three bodies—a 45-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy—and a 13-year-old girl who was critically injured but was reported stable on Saturday.
A second residence in the same county produced the body of a 53-year-old man. Police identified a 39-year-old male suspect, Chad Hickman, who fled the scene. Troopers later located his vehicle near Whitlock Lake in Caldwell Township and found Hickman and a 29-year-old woman dead in nearby woods.
Lt. Ashley Miller of the Michigan State Police said, "This situation is heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved." The motive for the shootings remains under investigation, and authorities have not disclosed relationships among the victims.
