Fort Hood Identifies Two Soldiers Killed in Apache Helicopter Crash Near Salado, Texas
The U.S. Army confirmed that Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deontre T. Huey and Warrant Officer Seth L. Olmstead died when their AH-64E Apache crashed during a training exercise near Salado, Texas, and a safety investigation is under way.
Fort Hood announced Wednesday that Chief Warrant Officer 2 Deontre T. Huey, 34, of Killeen, Texas, and Warrant Officer Seth L. Olmstead, 25, of Belton, Texas, were killed when their AH-64E Apache helicopter crashed into a field about 30 minutes from the base during a training mission. The impact ignited a wildfire that required a large emergency response.
"In the difficult days ahead, our priority is to ensure these families and our Soldiers have the care and support they need," said Lt. Gen. Kevin D. Admiral, III, commanding general of Fort Hood and III Armored Corps.
The Army said a safety investigation team from the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center in Fort Rucker, Alabama, arrived on Aug. 13 to lead the inquiry. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
