Two UAE oil tankers damaged by drone attacks in Strait of Hormuz

Résumé

Two tankers owned by Abu Dhabi's ADNOC were struck by drones while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with no injuries reported; the UAE blames Iran for the incident.

Two oil tankers operated by Abu Dhabi's state-owned ADNOC were hit by drones on Thursday evening as they passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels sustained minor damage but there were no casualties, and the situation was reported as under control.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center confirmed that two ships suffered damage from drone attacks in the waterway, though it did not name the vessels.

The UAE Foreign Ministry attributed the attacks to Iran, calling them a violation of United Nations principles of freedom of navigation. > "Targeting commercial shipping and using the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion or blackmail represents acts of piracy by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps," the ministry said.

Iran has not issued an immediate response to the allegations.
