Steelers rookie Drew Allar and backup Will Howard debut in win over Packers

Resumen

Rookie quarterback Drew Allar and backup Will Howard each made their first NFL appearances for the Steelers on Thursday, contributing to a victory against Green Bay.

The Pittsburgh Steelers saw two quarterbacks make their NFL debuts on Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers. Rookie Drew Allar, the only first-year quarterback on the roster, completed 10 of 13 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, including a 74-yard reception by wide receiver Kaden Wetjen that set up a rushing score. Backup Will Howard entered the game after Mason Rudolph, completing 7 of 9 attempts for 86 yards and nearly reaching the end zone before a touchdown was called back.

The Steelers scored three touchdowns while Allar was on the field, ultimately securing the win. Head coach Mike McCarthy praised the performance of both quarterbacks, noting their composure and effectiveness in the offense. He described the outing as a "good start" for the team and said the upcoming weeks will help determine the final roster composition.

"I like the way our quarterbacks ran the offense and that’s the big thing... I thought they were very poised," McCarthy said. "I liked the way all three of them played, especially our young guys. I liked the way Will responded... He did a good job overcoming some long down on distances, and I thought his two-minute drill was outstanding. And I thought Drew played very, very well."
