Jayden Daniels' Attorney Requests LSU Stop Using His Image Over Jersey Number Dispute
Jayden Daniels' legal team has asked LSU to cease using his name, image and likeness after the school assigned his former No. 5 jersey to another player, prompting a dispute over the number.
An attorney for former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels sent a letter to the university asking it to stop using Daniels' name, image and likeness in promotional materials. The request follows LSU's decision to allow sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear the No. 5 jersey that Daniels wore during the 2022-23 season.
"The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU's decision to give Jayden's number to another player," a spokesperson for Daniels said.
LSU has not retired the jersey, and the school clarified that the number was assigned to Pickett after head coach Brian Kelly promised it during recruitment, though the promise was later retracted. Pickett, now wearing No. 5 under head coach Lane Kiffin, said he has worn the number since childhood and wishes Daniels well.
Daniels posted on Instagram that his focus remains on training with the Washington Commanders and expressed hope that the issue could be resolved privately between him and LSU.
