49ers rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling records 63 yards in preseason win over Titans
San Francisco rookie wideout De’Zhaun Stribling caught seven passes for 63 yards in the 49ers' 19-13 preseason victory against Tennessee, while Titans rookie Carnell Tate finished without a reception.
San Francisco rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling caught seven passes for 63 yards on eight targets in the 49ers' 19-13 preseason win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. The second-round pick, who finished his college career at Ole Miss with 55 receptions for 811 yards, was the primary target on three third-down plays, converting two of them. He also recorded a single drop that appeared to be a catch.
Titans rookie wideout Carnell Tate, the No. 4 overall draft pick, was targeted three times and did not record a reception. The Titans' offense managed 19 points, while the 49ers scored 13, with field goals accounting for all of San Francisco's points.
"I was just a little excited, a little nervous," Stribling said after the game. "But kind of getting the first hit out the way, the first catch out the way, you start getting into a groove and everything starts rolling."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan noted the team's late-game strategy, saying the decision to attempt a field goal and an onside kick was a preseason experiment. "They were suggesting it, it’s preseason, I said, ‘Screw it, let’s try it,’" Shanahan said.
The game also featured a defensive play by rookie cornerback Ephesians Prysock, who broke up a pass at the goal line against Tate. Shanahan praised Prysock’s health and progress during the first two weeks of camp.
San Francisco's other receivers contributed as well, with Jordan Watkins catching six passes for 59 yards after returning from injuries earlier in the preseason.
