Chicago Sky guard DiJonas Carrington receives technical foul after recent on-court incidents
DiJonas Carrington was assessed a technical foul during a game against the Golden State Valkyries after a series of recent fouls that involved contact to opponents' faces, following a prior flagrant foul on Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham.
Chicago Sky guard DiJonas Carrington was given a technical foul in the third quarter of the Sky's 91-71 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. The penalty followed a sequence in which Carrington made contact with the face of Golden State forward Cecilia Zandalasini while attempting to swipe at a ball, and later struck Valkyries guard Tiffany Hayes in the mouth during a contested layup.
The incidents come four days after Carrington was ejected from a game against the Indiana Fever for a Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham that resulted in a bloody mouth. After that ejection, Carrington posted a message on social media referencing "white privilege," which drew additional attention.
Carrington has not been charged with additional flagrant or technical fouls for the contacts with Golden State players, but the technical foul was issued for arguing with a referee. The WNBA has not released an official comment on the matter.
"I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption)," Carrington wrote on X two days after the Cunningham incident.
The Sky’s loss marked Cunningham’s return to the lineup, where she recorded three points on 1-for-9 shooting in 24 minutes.
