Illinois ticket wins $1 billion Powerball jackpot
A Powerball ticket sold at a Quincy, Illinois gas station matched all six numbers on Aug. 12, awarding the holder a $1.04 billion annuity or a $450.5 million cash prize.
A single Powerball ticket purchased at a Hy-Vee gas station on 36th Street in Quincy, Illinois, matched all six numbers drawn on Aug. 12, securing a $1.04 billion annuity or a $450.5 million lump-sum cash option before taxes, according to Illinois state lottery officials. The winning numbers were 4-26-66-67-69 with Powerball 9, and the Power Play multiplier was 2×.
The jackpot, which had grown through successive rollovers since the last win on May 2, became one of the largest Powerball prizes ever awarded. In the same drawing, a player in Massachusetts won a $2 million prize for matching five numbers plus Power Play, and four other tickets matched five numbers for $1 million each; those tickets were sold in Arizona, California, Florida and North Carolina.
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 15, at approximately 10:59 p.m. ET, with the jackpot resetting to an estimated $20 million. Powerball drawings are held three times a week and can be viewed live on the official website or replayed on the Powerball YouTube channel.
