Bug Fire gains limited containment as Stallion Fire remains uncontained, evacuations continue
The Bug Fire is now 3% contained after burning about 71,000 acres, while the Stallion Fire remains at 0% containment with roughly 34,000 acres burned. Evacuation orders and road closures persist across multiple counties.
Fire crews reported that the Bug Fire, which has burned approximately 70,757 acres, achieved 3% containment late Wednesday, while the nearby Stallion Fire, at 33,731 acres, remains uncontained. Evacuation zones continue to expand, with new orders issued for areas south and west of Sutcliffe along State Route 445, and additional warnings in Lassen and Plumas counties.
"Evacuation zones for the fires continue to change and expand," officials said, noting that U.S. Route 395 is closed in both directions between Bordertown and Hallelujah Junction.
The Evelyn Mount Community Center in Reno serves as the primary evacuation shelter, and livestock can be taken to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. Power outages affect parts of Red Rock, Antelope Valley and Palomino Valley, with NV Energy restoring service to about 240 customers in the Nixon area.
FEMA approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant for the Stallion Fire, which has grown to more than 31,500 acres and threatens roughly 700 homes. The grant can cover up to 75% of eligible firefighting costs.
Road closures include Red Rock Road, Lemmon Drive, and portions of State Routes 445 and 446. Residents are urged to monitor the Perimeter Map for the latest evacuation information and to follow any "GO NOW" orders issued for their locations.
