White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt to resign by end of August

Résumé

President Donald Trump announced that 28-year-old Karoline Leavitt will leave her role as White House press secretary to focus on family and will serve as an outside advisor for the Republican Party.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down from her post by the end of August. Leavitt, 28, will leave the position to spend more time with her children, according to Trump’s post on Truth Social. He added that she will become one of his top outside advisors and will help the Republican Party in the upcoming November midterm elections. Leavitt has served as press secretary since the administration’s return in January 2025. She gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Viviana, on May 1 after returning from maternity leave. In a statement on X, Leavitt said she felt she could not be the mother her children deserve while fulfilling the demanding duties of the press secretary role, prompting her decision to resign. Leavitt is the youngest person ever to hold the White House press secretary position. Trump previously appointed four press secretaries during his first term from 2017 to 2021.
