Spider-Man: Brand New Day Expected to Remain Box Office Leader Amid New Releases
Sony's Spider-Man sequel is projected to earn $65-$70 million this weekend, keeping it at the top of the U.S. box office while five other films open, including Warner Bros.' The End of Oak Street.
Sony and Marvel’s "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set to stay at the top of the North American box office for its third weekend, with an estimated $65 million to $70 million in earnings, about a 55% drop from its opening weekend. After 12 days in theaters, the Tom Holland-led film has grossed $671 million domestically and $1.68 billion worldwide, positioning it to become the first $2 billion global blockbuster since 2022’s "Avatar: The Way of Water."
The weekend also sees the debut of five new titles. Warner Bros. expects its sci-fi mystery "The End of Oak Street," starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, to open with $18 million to $23 million domestically from 3,400 theaters, while projecting $20 million to $25 million overseas. The film, directed by David Robert Mitchell, follows a family transported to prehistoric times after a cosmic event.
Paramount’s animated sequel "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie" is targeting a $20 million opening from 3,500 screens, following a $27.5 million international start. The franchise, based on the Nickelodeon series, has generated more than $14 billion in global retail sales since 2014.
Neon’s stoner comedy "The Wrong Girls," opening in 510 locations, stars Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat, while Black Bear’s crime thriller "The Rivals of Amziah King," featuring Matthew McConaughey, will debut on roughly 500 screens. Angel Studios’ historical drama "The Brink of War," set during the 1986 Reykjavík Summit, is slated for 2,000 screens.
Other holdovers include Universal’s "The Odyssey," which could add $17 million to $20 million in its fifth weekend, bringing its North American total to $466 million and its global gross to $1.11 billion, making it the second-highest-earning film of the year after "Spider-Man: Brand New Day."
