Fever players back coach after fans booed her during pregame introductions
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark said she felt ill seeing fans boo coach Stephanie White, and affirmed the team’s support for her ahead of a win over the New York Liberty.
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark said she was upset after some fans booed head coach Stephanie White during the pregame introductions before the team’s home game against the New York Liberty. Clark told reporters that the boos made her feel sick and pledged the players would continue to support White, adding that the incident would not divide the locker room.
White had earlier delivered a pregame statement defending a hard foul on teammate Sophie Cunningham by Chicago’s DiJonai Carrington and criticized online commentary she said created false narratives about the league. She said she could not review the replay of the foul in real time but described the incident as “egregious.”
In the post-game press conference after Indiana’s 106-92 victory, White reiterated her stance, stating that “the hate, the fear-mongering, the divisiveness… will not win” and that the team remains united. She also told critics that they could “go to hell,” emphasizing her commitment to “love, grace, humility and kindness."
The Fever, currently tied for first place in the Eastern Conference and leading the league in scoring, will look to maintain momentum as the playoffs approach.
