Trump Media launches paid API offering millisecond-fast access to Truth Social posts

Resumen

Trump Media & Technology Group has begun selling a subscription service that provides high-frequency traders and other clients with near-real-time access to posts on Truth Social for fees up to $100,000 a month, prompting ethical concerns and regulatory scrutiny.

Trump Media & Technology Group announced that it is offering a subscription-based API, called the Truth API, which delivers posts from President Donald Trump and other top accounts on Truth Social to customers milliseconds before they appear on the public feed. The service, priced between $60,000 and $100,000 per month, has attracted more than ten clients, primarily high-frequency securities trading firms seeking a timing edge.

CEO Kevin McGurn told investors that the company is also in talks with cloud-computing providers, artificial-intelligence firms and news organizations about the product, and plans to eventually market it to retail investors. > "We're encouraged by the early demand for Truth API, and we look forward to rolling out the product to other sectors, including retail investors," McGurn said during a Wall Street analyst call.

Trump Media, which has not posted a profit since its 2021 launch, reported second-quarter revenue of $1.67 million, an 89 % increase from the prior period, while its losses widened to $238 million due to a decline in the value of its cryptocurrency holdings. The company has diversified into financial products, cryptocurrency investments and a merger with fusion-energy firm TAE Technologies.

The API’s ability to deliver public posts a fraction of a second faster has raised ethical questions. Democratic Senator Mark Warner introduced legislation to prohibit social-media platforms from selling preferential access to government accounts that share market-moving information. Legal scholar Richard Painter noted that even milliseconds can matter for high-frequency traders and warned that using such data before it is reflected in market prices could breach insider-trading rules.

A Trump Media spokesperson dismissed the criticism, stating that the service provides only publicly available information and that the concerns are "mischaracterizations" driven by ideological opposition. The president holds a 41 % stake in the company, valued at roughly $1 billion, creating a direct financial interest in the market impact of his statements.

Despite the controversy, McGurn said the Truth API has generated modest revenue so far but could become a "meaningful, durable contributor" as the company expands its customer base.
