Future of Shadow the bald eagle uncertain after partner's death in Big Bear

Resumen

Friends of Big Bear Valley said Shadow may remain in the area and could find a new mate, but the timing and outcome are uncertain following the death of his partner, Jackie.

The live nest camera in Big Bear, California, has drawn a global audience for years as it documented the activities of bald eagles Jackie and Shadow. After Jackie died, the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV) said the future of the pair’s nest is unclear.

"He was very set on being here when he came to the territory in 2018, so we don't know if that means he'll want to stay. It very well could," said Jenny Voisard, media manager for FOBBV, referring to Shadow's possible continued presence.

Nesting season typically begins in late fall, and Voisard noted that a new mate could appear. "It could be that he will take a new mate. If that's the case, then we will love her, too, and we will cheer her on. So we'll just have to watch and see," she added, noting increased eagle activity on the habitat cam.

A juvenile eagle was observed hopping onto the nest on Monday, indicating ongoing natural activity in the area.
