Powerball jackpot climbs toward $1 billion after Monday draw goes empty
No ticket matched Monday's $905 million Powerball draw, pushing the estimated prize for Wednesday's drawing to at least $975 million, with a cash option of roughly $422 million.
The Multi-State Lottery Association said Monday's Powerball drawing produced no winning ticket for the $905 million jackpot, so the prize for the upcoming Wednesday draw is expected to rise to a minimum of $975 million. The estimated cash value of that amount would be about $422.3 million, which a winner could take as a lump-sum payment instead of 30 annual annuity installments, both before taxes.
Monday's winning numbers were 6, 37, 54, 55, 64 with a Powerball of 10. The next drawing, the 44th since a $20 million jackpot was split between Florida and Texas on May 2, will take place at 10:59 p.m. ET.
If the Wednesday jackpot reaches $1 billion, it would mark the 15th time that threshold has been hit in U.S. lottery history and the eighth occurrence for Powerball. The record-setting Powerball prize remains the $2.04 billion jackpot won in California in November 2022.
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with recent sales also available in the United Kingdom, though UK tickets only contribute to the main jackpot and have different lower-tier prize structures. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 292,201,338, and drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
