Brad Pitt says he has resumed drinking in moderation after seven years of sobriety
The actor told Esquire he has begun drinking again, but only in limited amounts, after a decade-long period of abstinence.
Brad Pitt told Esquire that he has started drinking alcohol again, but only in small quantities, after maintaining sobriety for seven years. He said he became "overconfident" a few times and now limits his intake, noting he can have a few glasses of wine but not a large amount.
Pitt’s renewed discussion of alcohol comes after his highly publicized divorce from Angelina Jolie, which ended in 2024 and was linked to an alleged alcohol-related incident on a private plane. The split prompted Pitt to seek help through Alcoholics Anonymous, a program he has spoken about publicly in recent years.
He previously credited fellow actor Bradley Cooper for supporting his sobriety in a 2020 awards speech and described his experience with the 12-step program as a “quest” to prevent relapse during a 2022 interview on "Armchair Expert." In the Esquire interview, Pitt also reflected on a period of deep personal grief, saying he once considered suicide but ultimately chose to keep going, describing his recovery as a gradual process of “trying and trying… until it felt a little sunnier.”
