DiJonai Carrington explained that her contact with Sophie Cunningham was accidental, defended her on-court approach and refused to discuss a social-media post referencing "white privilege".

Chicago Sky guard DiJonah Carrington addressed the media on Monday, the first interview since her ejection for a Flagrant 2 foul on Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham during the Sky's 90-86 loss on Saturday. Carrington said the contact was accidental, noting she was attempting a defensive play and that any injury was "unfortunate" but not intentional.

"I’m never going to just let an open layup be had. It was unfortunate I made contact, but it was never intentional," Carrington said.

Sky head coach Tyler Marsh echoed the sentiment, stating the intent was to contest the ball and describing Carrington as a "passionate, hard-nosed" player.

"I think the intent was to make an attempt at the ball, and that’s how she plays," Marsh said.

After the incident, Carrington posted a brief message on social media that included the phrase "WHITE PRIVILEGE @indianafever," which she later deleted. When asked about the remark, she declined to elaborate, saying she had already spoken with league officials and would not discuss the conversation further.

Carrington also called for consistent officiating regardless of a player's identity, expressing disappointment with the league's response but affirming her commitment to advocating for fairness.

Fever forward Sophie Cunningham described the foul as unnecessary and suggested Carrington was seeking attention, but did not pursue any further disciplinary action during the game.
