US recalls nearly 30,000 pounds of Argentine beef over missed reinspection

Summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has ordered a recall of about 29,600 pounds of raw beef imported from Argentina after the products were not subjected to required FSIS reinspection.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Friday that Corte Argentino USA LLC is recalling roughly 29,628 pounds of raw beef imported from Argentina because the shipments were not re-inspected after entering the United States. The recall covers several cuts, including top sirloin butt, eye round, topside cap off, flat and knuckle, packaged in cardboard boxes and bearing the Argentinian establishment number EST. N° OF. 2025 and shipping mark 26644-AA.

The affected beef was produced between May 15 and May 20 and carries use-or-freeze-by dates from September 15 to September 20. Distribution was limited to retailers and distributors in Florida and Texas.

"without the benefit of import reinspection into the United States," FSIS said in its notice.

FSIS said the lapse was identified during routine inspection activities and noted that no illnesses or injuries have been reported. Consumers who may have the product in their homes are advised to contact a health professional if they experience any symptoms.
