Nvidia secures $500 billion from investors to fund AI compute infrastructure

Résumé

Nvidia has raised $500 billion from major banks and asset managers to finance new data centres and chip factories for artificial-intelligence computing.

Nvidia announced a $500 billion financing package backed by a group of leading Wall Street investors, including Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR. The capital will be used to build additional data-centre capacity and expand chip-manufacturing facilities needed for artificial-intelligence (AI) workloads.

Chief executive Jensen Huang said the funding reflects the view that "compute is revenue" and that the investors are treating AI hardware as a distinct asset class. KKR co-chief executives Joe Bae and Scott Nuttall added that "compute has become a critical infrastructure asset" and emphasized the importance of delivery over ambition.

The consortium’s backing is expected to support Nvidia’s own projects as well as those of its partners, helping to meet rising demand for AI chips and services. Apollo president Jim Zelter described modern compute as a "scarce, mission-critical asset class."
