Taylor Farms initiates recall of jalapeño-containing products over salmonella risk

Summary

Taylor Farms is recalling about 20 fresh food items that contain jalapeño peppers in 26 U.S. states after identifying a salmonella source in Mexico, though no illnesses have been reported.

Taylor Farms announced a voluntary recall of roughly 20 fresh products, including dips, sauces, sandwiches and sliced jalapeños, distributed through retailers such as Walmart, Target and Whole Foods. The recall covers items sold in 26 states after the company traced salmonella contamination to a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, and halted sourcing from that farm.

The company said it is working with alternative suppliers to fulfill orders and advised consumers to discard any recalled items and obtain refunds at the point of purchase.

The recall follows a recent recall by Coast Citrus Distributors of fresh jalapeños for the same salmonella concerns, and comes after a separate cyclospora outbreak linked to Taylor Farms lettuce earlier this year.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration notes that salmonella infection typically produces symptoms such as diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain within 12 to 72 hours of consumption.
