Bug Fire 20% Contained, Some Evacuation Orders Lifted in Nevada

Resumen

The 6,529-acre Bug Fire near the Nevada-California border is 20% contained, allowing residents of several Cold Springs neighborhoods to return home while some road closures remain.

Fire crews have contained about 20% of the Bug Fire, which has burned roughly 6,529 acres northwest of Cold Springs along U.S. 395. All neighborhoods in Cold Springs that were evacuated from White Lake and Village Parkway have been cleared for re-entry, and the previously closed northbound off-ramps on U.S. 395 are now open.

Road closures persist on Red Rock Road between Moya Boulevard and American Flat Road and on Lemmon Drive at Ramsey Way, with officials expecting them to stay in effect through Monday.

Washoe County continues to enforce "Evacuate Now" orders for portions of Cold Springs, Canyon Hills, White Lake, Silver Knolls and areas north of Cold Springs. An evacuation center operates at the Evelyn Mount Community Center in Reno, with a trailer for small animals, and a large-animal center is located at the Reno Livestock Event Center.

"No structures have been damaged," said a spokesperson for the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, noting that crews worked through the night with ground and air resources to protect property.

The fire, which started Saturday afternoon, remains a threat to the Cold Springs area, and officials will reassess evacuation orders throughout the day.
