Apple explores radical redesigns for Watch line, including round display and screenless models
Apple is reassessing its smartwatch portfolio, weighing options such as a round-face watch, a screen-less fitness band and new premium and budget variants, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
Apple is reportedly rethinking its Apple Watch lineup and evaluating a range of new form factors. Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman said the company’s industrial design team has been exploring alternatives that could "transform the product for a new era," likening the effort to the foldable iPhone redesign.
Among the concepts under review are devices without a display, reflecting the recent popularity of screen-less fitness bands and smart rings, as well as watches with different screen types and new size options. A round-face Apple Watch has also been considered, though Gurman noted it is unlikely to reach market.
Apple is also said to be looking at adding both higher-priced premium models positioned above the Ultra and Hermès editions and more affordable options beyond the current SE version. The company aims to make its wearables more AI-centric and has long-term plans to overhaul the Health app.
Gurman suggested the upcoming changes could be as impactful as the iPhone’s shift from a flat slab to a foldable design, as Apple seeks to boost growth in its Wearables, Home and Accessories segment, which has faced sluggish performance in recent years.
