Europe faces fifth heat wave as high-pressure system intensifies

Ամփոփում

Meteorologists warn that a strengthening heat dome will bring record temperatures to parts of France, Spain, Italy and later Central Europe, raising wildfire risks.

A new heat wave is set to sweep across large areas of Europe this week, officials said. Forecasters noted that rapidly rising temperatures combined with very dry conditions could increase the danger of wildfires. The event marks the continent's fifth heat wave since May, driven by a broad high-pressure system, commonly referred to as a heat dome, that is strengthening across the region. The most severe heat is expected first in parts of France, Spain and Italy, before moving toward Central Europe, where the highest temperatures are projected for Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

"The combination of soaring temperatures and persistent dryness creates a serious wildfire threat," a spokesperson for the European weather agency said.
