WNBA reverses Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul, avoiding suspension
The league rescinded Caitlin Clark's eighth technical foul from Saturday's game, meaning she will not serve the one-game suspension that the infraction would have triggered.
Caitlin Clark avoided a one-game suspension after the WNBA withdrew the eighth technical foul she received during the Indiana Fever's 90-86 victory over the Chicago Sky on Saturday. The foul was initially assessed when Clark appeared to bump into an official after losing balance on a drive, a call both Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White contested.
Within two hours of the game, reports from ESPN and USA Today indicated that the league had nullified the penalty. Clark, who posted 26 points, five three-pointers, 11 assists and four rebounds, said after the game that she had reviewed the tape and believed the contact was unintentional, adding that she hoped the league would rescind the foul.
"She said I ran into her. I've already watched it on the tape, so we'll let the league decide, but it wasn't intentional or anything. So I'm hoping it's getting rescinded … I'll see you on Tuesday," Clark said in a post-game interview.
The Fever, who will host the New York Liberty on Tuesday, confirmed they intended to appeal the technical call, but the league's decision left Clark with only a single prior technical foul. The incident had drawn attention because Clark's seventh technical foul earlier in the season had placed her among the league's most penalized players, alongside Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese.
The same game also featured a separate incident in which Chicago Sky forward DiJonai Carrington was ejected after receiving a flagrant-2 foul on Sophie Cunningham. Carrington later posted a message on social media referencing "WHITE PRIVILEGE @indianafever" from the locker room.
