Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke died of accidental drug overdose, medical examiner says
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled that the 29-year-old Grizzlies player died accidentally from heroin and cocaine use after being found dead in a San Fernando Valley home.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner determined that Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke, 29, died accidentally from the combined effects of heroin and cocaine. Clarke was discovered deceased inside a San Fernando Valley residence on May 11. A source familiar with the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. Clarke, who was under contract with the Grizzlies through the 2026-27 season, had been arrested in Arkansas about six weeks earlier on charges of speeding, reckless driving and possession of a controlled substance. He had spent his entire seven-year NBA career with Memphis after completing his college tenure at Gonzaga.
"The death was accidental," the medical examiner's office said.
