Patriots finish training session with three interceptions
New England Patriots concluded Thursday's 11th practice with a defensive surge that produced three interceptions in the final two minutes, while several players were listed as absent or limited.
The New England Patriots held their 11th training camp practice on Thursday, August 6, working full-field and red-zone drills after a walkthrough day. The session was marked by a defensive burst that yielded three interceptions in the final two minutes.
With 1:20 left on the clock, quarterback Drake Maye completed a short pass to Kayshon Boutte before safety Marcus Jones intercepted the ball. Maye’s next throw to Hunter Henry was taken by Kevin Byard, and later, quarterback Tommy DeVito’s pass was picked off by safety John Saunders Jr. The defensive sideline reacted positively as head coach Mike Vrabel concluded practice.
Cornerback Christian Gonzalez outperformed wide receiver A.J. Brown in two 2-on-2 goal-line drills, breaking up a pass in the end-zone corner on the final rep. Left tackle Will Campbell did not participate in competitive drills, wearing an arm brace; Marcus Bryant filled in at left tackle, while rookie Dametrious Crownover served as backup.
Rookie pass rusher Gabe Jacas, returning from a knee procedure, worked with the first-team defense and recorded multiple pressures, including a play that forced an interception. With wide receiver Romeo Doubs absent, reps were distributed among Mack Hollins, Kayshon Boutte and Efton Chism III. Both Hollins and DeMario Douglas caught red-zone touchdowns from Maye.
The Patriots will hold their final practice of the week on Friday at 10:15 a.m. ET, with Vrabel speaking before the session.
