Jahmyr Gibbs participates in Lions practice as contract talks continue

Résumé

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs took part in training camp drills while negotiations on a new contract are ongoing, according to team officials.

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs joined the team’s training camp practice on Thursday, wearing full uniform and taking part in warm-ups before moving to a trainer for individual work. The appearance follows a week of meetings and off-field activities while the player and the organization negotiate a new contract.

The Athletic reported that sources believe a deal could be finalized within the week, and the Lions’ coaching staff expressed optimism that a recent trend of extensions for other running backs might aid the process. > "I think it certainly’s not going to hurt. I’m anxious to get Gibbs back out there," head coach Dan Campbell said when asked about the situation.

General manager Brad Holmes also confirmed ongoing dialogue between the parties. > "Look, obviously we love Jahmyr. Me and Dan have always been believers in that one-two punch. We’re having dialogue. We’ll see where it goes," he told SiriusXM hosts.

Gibbs has not spoken publicly about the negotiations and declined to comment on when he will fully rejoin his teammates on the field.
