Bears show offensive spark in short practice, Kaden Davis highlighted

Summary

Chicago Bears held a brief practice focused on offensive drills, with rookie Kaden Davis drawing attention for a one-handed touchdown catch, while defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo commented on his social-media hype.

The Chicago Bears conducted a shorter training-camp session that emphasized offensive walk-throughs in the red zone after a less-effective practice earlier in the week. The team ran a 7-on-7 drill in which quarterback Caleb Williams completed eight of nine passes, throwing touchdowns to Kyle Monangai, Luther Burden, Colston Loveland and Kaden Davis, while teammates Tyson Bagent, Case Keenum and Miller Moss also recorded scores with only three incompletions.

"It’s entertainment at the end of the day. That’s what football is about," defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo said when asked about the "Motivated Dayo" trend on social media. He added that recovering from injury reinforces his desire to play and called the ability to play football "a blessing."

Rookie wide receiver Kaden Davis attracted particular notice for a sliding one-handed touchdown reception, a play that could boost his preseason profile if the team releases video footage. Wideout Luther Burden III returned to practice after a missed field-goal attempt the previous day, resuming his regular drills.

Veteran linemen left guard Joe Thuney and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett were given rest days, with second-year player Luke Newman stepping in at left guard. Braxton Jones handled most of the left-tackle duties, while Theo Benedet and Jedrick Wills Jr. received reps at left and right tackle, respectively. Nickelback Jaylon Jones remained the primary starter, with Josh Blackwell as the secondary option. Dillon Thieneman reported increased cross-training in nickel and man coverage alongside Al Harris.

Both T.J. Edwards, recently activated from the non-football injury list, and newly signed safety Marlen Sewell completed 40-yard sprints before the practice began. Odeyinggo also took snaps at defensive tackle in clear pass-rush situations during the early days of camp.
