Stefon Diggs to Join Washington Commanders on One-Year Deal

Resumen

Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders, providing a seasoned option for quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs has reached a one-year agreement with the Washington Commanders, according to a source familiar with the deal. The contract, reportedly worth up to $12 million, was confirmed on condition of anonymity because the signing has not yet been publicly announced.

Diggs, 32, a Maryland native, played last season with the New England Patriots, recording 99 receptions for 1,123 yards and five touchdowns in 21 games, including the team’s Super Bowl run. He was released by the Patriots in March and remained unsigned while facing criminal charges related to a dispute with his former private chef. He was acquitted in May, and the NFL later determined there was insufficient evidence for discipline under its personal-conduct policy.

Washington’s roster has a vacancy at receiver, and the team expects Diggs to fill that need, potentially reducing interest in other targets such as San Francisco’s Brandon Aiyuk. The Commanders’ existing options, Treylon Burks and Luke McCaffrey, would have left quarterback Jayden Daniels with limited support.

Diggs enters his 12th NFL season after stints with Minnesota, Buffalo, Houston and New England. He was an All-Pro selection in 2020, leading the league with 127 catches and 1,535 yards. Over his career, he has amassed 1,025 receptions for 12,523 yards and 79 touchdowns in regular-season and playoff games.

The signing pairs Diggs with Daniels, who was drafted one spot ahead of former Texas quarterback Drake Maye in the 2024 draft. The move adds experience to Washington’s receiving corps ahead of a competitive NFC East schedule.
