Patriots hold walkthrough practice, spotlight on running backs and receivers

Résumé

New England held its 10th training-camp session as a walkthrough, with backups Terrell Jennings and Efton Chism receiving notable reps while competition remained limited.

New England Patriots conducted a low-intensity walkthrough for their 10th camp practice on Wednesday, swapping full pads for bucket hats and T-shirts. The session focused on reviewing the depth chart rather than head-to-head competition, leaving no clear standout of the day.

Running back Terrell Jennings, who returned from the non-football injury list earlier in the week, saw significant involvement. He participated with the starting offense alongside Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson and also joined the primary kickoff return and punt-block units, suggesting he is gaining momentum in the race for the third-back role.

Wide receiver sophomore Efton Chism III filled in for the absent Romeo Doubs, lining up with the starting receivers during the first 11-on-11 series and sharing snaps with A.J. Brown and DeMario Douglas. His versatility across formations was highlighted as a positive sign for his future role.

Kyle Williams, another receiver, did not feature in the early 11-on-11 work but later joined the top unit and served as the first-team kickoff returner alongside Jennings.

Rookie cornerbacks Channing Canada and Karon Prunty were among five defensive backs working with the starters, including Christian Gonzalez, Charles Woods and Marcus Jones, indicating they are vying to move ahead of other backups.

Safety competition also unfolded, with S Dell Pettus appearing with the first-team defense while S Mike Brown worked with the second unit. Both also performed punt-protection duties, with Brown listed as the primary option.

The Patriots will hold their 11th practice Thursday, again behind closed doors.
