Packers training camp highlights winners and losers among players

Resumen

Green Bay Packers evaluated performance in Tuesday's practice, noting rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse and several defensive players as standouts, while veteran corner Keisean Nixon and others were among the less successful.

Green Bay – Coach Matt LaFleur praised rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse before the sixth day of Packers training camp, calling him an "A-plus human" who loves football. Cisse excelled in the day’s one-on-one drills, completing three reps and preventing completions from quarterbacks Jordan Love and Kyle McCord to receivers Savion Williams. He downplayed the achievement, saying each practice feels like a Super Bowl and that he treats every rep as a chance to improve.

Veteran cornerback Keisean Nixon struggled in the same drills, allowing an easy completion to Christian Watson and being beaten on a deep route to J. Michael Sturdivant. He did finish with a successful rep that limited Bo Melton’s opportunity.

Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s unit was described as having “beat the offense” in all six practices, with frequent blitzes and contributions from players such as Benjamin St-Juste, Jaylin Simpson, and defensive tackles Warren Brinson, Chris McClellan and Nazir Stackhouse.

Left tackle Jordan Morgan continued to impress in both one-on-one work and pass protection, while wide receiver Matthew Golden was noted for consistently getting open and making short catches. Receiver Jayden Reed also stood out, beating safety Javon Bullard twice in drills and posting the best numbers among the slot receivers.

Among the depth chart, J. Michael Sturdivant and Isaiah Neyor showed strong hands and route running, earning consideration for roster spots. Running back Damien Martinez, a seventh-round pick, received limited opportunities due to blocking issues and miscommunications during drills.

Edge rusher Barryn Sorrell, highlighted as a potential starter opposite Lukas Van Ness, recorded a pick-six on a screen pass and expressed enthusiasm about making plays. Fellow edge Brenton Cox contributed pressure on quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

Safety Evan Williams demonstrated strong run support and forced a turnover-inducing blitz, while tight ends RJ Maryland and Luke Lachey were waived/injured after injuries sidelined them.

Overall, the practice produced a clear list of performers who could solidify roster spots and those who need further development.
